The moral problem of trading

Summary:  The moral problem of trading  - The idolatry of money - An approach to avoid a wrong behavior.

Online trading a practice make speculation, an uncorrect behavior of individuals in the moral religious context.
Speculation is a practice that  is negative in a human perspective, regardless of the collateral effects on the market because  making money with money is  a wrong activity with reference to religious principles.

Trading causes a dangerous addiction to money that leads an individual to spend his life looking for profit; this is contrary to religious morality.

A major concern is the moral evaluation of the behavior of individuals within the economic system; an individual should avoid speculative practices like trading, morally reprehensible even if within the legal limits that are different in each country. "The social and legal endorsement does not exempt each individual from moral responsibility."

"cause of this situation is found in our relationship with money, since we calmly accept its dominion over ourselves and our societies. The current financial crisis can make us overlook the fact that it originated in a profound human crisis: the denial of the primacy of the human person! We have created new idols. The worship of the ancient golden calf (cf. Ex 32:1-35) has returned in a new and ruthless guise in the idolatry of money and the dictatorship of an impersonal economy lacking a truly human purpose. The worldwide crisis affecting finance and the economy lays bare their imbalances and, above all, their lack of real concern for human beings; man is reduced to one of his needs alone: consumption."

1Timothy 6:10 -- For the love of money is a root  of all kinds of evil. Some people,  eager for money, have wandered from their faith and pierced  themselves with many griefs.

How to invest ethically: summary of guidelines

To maintain a personal correct behavior avoiding any kind of immoral attitude in the religious context, an individual should operate with a medium-long term horizon (period of more than 1 year established by the economic and accounting principles) avoiding any type of modality, information and instruments for the pursuit of profit in the short term period, even if used without exceeding the legal limits which in any case are different in each country. Stock investing should be limited to long-term ownership of companies operating in ethical business; also any hazard in the expected return on invested capital is to be avoided.

Since the completely safe asset does not exist, a person can never accumulate enough to feel totally safe. The search for such security is a chasing after the wind – we are never satiated, no matter how much we possess. It is wiser not to begin the pursuit (e.g. Ecclesiastes 5:10; 6:7).
